Papasan Chair Cushions & Accessories

Do you remember the time when Papasan chairs were in? Yes, it was some time ago, the 60s and 70s of the last century. You were supposed to be sitting in a thing which looked more like a satellite dish rather than a chair, although at that time there were no satellite dishes on the market.

And you started wondering, how much comfort you will be going to experience in such a satellite dish chair. As it turned out for most of the time, the comfort of the chair was directly correlated with the quality of the Papasan chair cushion, which was used for this particular chair.

Today Papasan chairs have made their comeback. They look stylish and somewhat futuristic with that dish look, but turn out to be extremely comfortable if the cushion is well selected. These cushions come in all shapes, styles, colors and fabrics. Like all other kind of upholstered furniture, the Papasan chair cushions are sold in all kind of quality and comfort levels.

The Papasan chair is composed of two separate items, the chair frame, mostly made of rattan or bamboo and the cushion. Most popular then were the single seaters, but you have also the choice of having a double seater (loveseats), or a Papasan swivel rocking chair. These are variations from the original, the round single-seated Papasan chair, which comes in different sizes, ranging from small to large. Looking like a round bowl, these chairs invite you to dive into it and experience complete relaxation.

Papasan Chair Cushion Choices:

The Papasan chair cushions are offered in a multitude of fabrics. Most important characteristics of a good cushion is its durability and comfort. Batting materials used can be down, cotton, polyester fibers or different synthetic materials. Similar to the batting materials, the covers can also be made of  polyester or cotton polyester blends, cotton duck or cotton. The advantage of synthetic fabrics lies in its durability, as they are long wearing. You also won’t have a lot of problems to remove stains from the cushions surface, and the cushions come in assorted colors and motives like flowers on a summer meadow. If you go for chenille fabrics, you will appreciate a stylish, very comfortable and smooth cushion.

Here some ideas on how to choose quality Papasan chair cushions. Although the colors, styles and patterns of the cushions seem to be without end, what counts in the end is the quality of the cover and inner batting material. This time it is right to say “the thicker the better,” because you don’t want to feel the rattan or bamboo ribs when sitting on the chair. Rule of thumb is that the Papasan chair cushion should be at least 6 inches thick or even more. Less than 5 inches may be less expensive, but your buttocks will have to pay the price for the savings.
